The Staten Island Artists’ Association was founded in 1989 by Norma Post, who is still an active member. At its inception, the purpose of the association was to encourage mature adults, 50 years of age and older, to pursue artistic endeavors, expand their knowledge of art and culture, share their work with others through exhibition and sale. Today, the Staten Island Artists’ Association is still an active force in the Staten Island art scene, providing its members with the opportunity to meet and network with other artists, inspiring them to engage fully in artistic pursuits, and promoting their work through group exhibits.Members come from all types of artistic backgrounds. Some have been painting and drawing since childhood; others have only recently begun to pursue art. All have studied with the foremost artists in Staten Island, many of these artists members of the Art Lab faculty. Some have pursued their artistic study in other venues as well. Many of the members are award-winning artists. All have participated in both group and solo shows, and their work may be found in many private collections.
One thing all members of the Association have in common is that they are serious, committed artists who bring to their art a maturity gained through life experience.
