Joan is a life long Staten Island resident, descended from the earliest Dutch and French Huguenot settlers of Staten Island. She is a retired Registered Nurse, widow of Alfred D. Rendell, MD, who has resided in Shore Acres for 44 years. A talent for drawing led Joan to join the Art Lab at Snug Harbor in 1991 where she has studied with Melanie Hickersen and Sal Busacca.Joan enjoys photography and uses her own photos as a basis for painting. Her medium is acrylic on canvas. Joan especially enjoys painting landscapes.
Joan is a member of the Staten Island Artists Association and the Artists’ Federation and has exhibited on Staten Island and New York City.
